How do I backup iCloud Photos manually?
Log in to the iCloud account and follow the steps from the website: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209454
We recommend using a desktop as transferring to an external drive would be the easiest way for Amber X to index photos.
On your Mac or PC
- On iCloud.com, click Photos and select a photo or video. Click on a photo and click on Command + A or CTRL + A to choose all photos.
- Click and hold the download button
in the upper corner of the window. If you want to download your photo or video as it was originally captured or imported, choose Unmodified Original. For JPEG or H.264 format — including edits, and even if it was originally in HEIF or HEVC format — choose Most Compatible.* - Click Download.
- If your photos download as a ZIP archive, they do need to be unzipped for Amber X to be able to index and see thumbnails. If you are copying to an external USB drive and have multiple external USB drives connected to Amber X, please make sure the external USB drive is the registered drive in Amber X OS in order for Amber X to index and see thumbnails.
