Alert on Volume Decryption: 

Recently multiple users have encountered issues decrypting their Amber X storage volume. This has mainly been due to the loss of their password. Users have asked if we have workarounds to recover their password so that their encrypted data (volume) can be accessed. As a Privacy First platform, we want to emphasize that we hold NO backup of your password or any volume encryption key in AmberCloud and DO NOT have the ability to decrypt your device. 

As a reminder, it is critically important that you do not forget your volume decryption password. We understand that an Amber device reboot may not happen frequently enough to practice entering that password and some users may eventually forget their password. Please be diligent and save your password in a password management program (e.g.: KeePass, LastPass, etc) to help you manage it. An alternative is to download a volume decryption key credential from your Amber X before you forget your password, and save the file somewhere safe (eg, a USB flash drive) for future use. 

We also encourage our users to practice exercising the recovery process by using the downloaded key file to ascertain that you have a saved version that actually works. If you don't intend to use either a password management program or saving your volume decryption key file, we would strongly advise you against enabling volume encryption during setup to avoid the issues described above with not being able to decrypt your volume. 

We did have a couple edge cases where users were having trouble decrypting their volume and also adamant that they entered the correct password. We will never know for sure, but will continue to look into any weakness in the encryption process. It is highly unlikely as they are based on best practices and common standards. Still, if you have the saved password or decryption key, we will know for sure.. So we would strongly urge you to protect your password right away.

As for users who have no more appetite for encryption, unfortunately, there is no way to disable encryption once it is set up.  You will have to re-setup the device from scratch. We realize it is a pain but we would suggest that you save all your data to an external USB-drive before you re-setup your unit from scratch.
