How to share files from external storage
*Note* It must be in a supported format. For a list of compatible formats, please check this ARTICLE.
To share from the Amber OS web portal,
1. click on the Control panel button on the left sidebar.
2. click on the "Local Common Folder" tab on the left hand side.
3. On the next screen you will want to select the external drive you would like to share. Then you click edit.
4. on the pop up you will have the option to allow users to have access to this folder. Here is where you can also rename the drive to something user friendly for the shared users.
You can then click update to complete the process.
To share this via the mobile iX app:
1. If you want to share from your external storage, you can do so from the Amber folder on your app.
*note* to be able to do this process you want to ensure you allow access to the external drives from your Amber OS web portal, you can find those instructions here.
Once the external drive has been exported you will be able to see it on your iX app.
2.On the main screen for the Amber iX app, navigate down to the Amber folder and click on it.
3. on the next page find the External drive you wish to share and click on the options menu.
4. on the pop-up you will have 3 options to share this drive.
The first is "share" this will allow you to share with someone that is not yet an AmberCloud user. Second is to select "public link". The other way to share is with any users already set up on this device, this is done by clicking "Allow User Access".
If you hit share you will get this screen, click the "Share" button.
If you select to allow user access you will get the following notification to confirm.
5. When sharing with a new user you can select the option for the type of user. And how long the access will last.
6. If you wish to share a with a none user on a temporary basis you can use the "public link" option.
Once you have the "share link" you can provide this to those you wish to view the folder. This is good if you wish to share family photos or videos with others without them being required to create an account.
*NOTE* This public link can be used by anyone that has it.
On either option you can select the Amount of time the "share" link is open until it expires.
