How to increase storage capacity for Amber X?
Yes, you can plug in an external drive using the USB port on Amber X to expand storage capacity. We support most of the major brands in the market. For most compatible USB drive format for Amber X OS, MAC OS, and Windows OS, we recommend exFAT.
Here is External USB Drive Format Compatibility Matrix:
Drive Format | Amber X OS | Mac OS | Windows OS |
NTFS | read/write | read-only | read/write |
exFAT | read/write | read/write | read/write |
FAT16 | read/write | read/write | read/write |
FAT32 | read/write | read/write | read/write |
HFS+ | read-only | read/write | Not supported |
APFS* | Not supported | read/write | Not supported |
Note: "Open To All Amber Users" and "Auto-Export" options must be enabled for other users to be able to access USB drive and from Amber iX Mobile/Desktop.
If you like to connect multiple USB drives, please use an external power source USB hub to connect. You may need to use an external power source for your external drive/hub.
Encrypted external drives are not supported.

Hi Mike, you can designate the backup directly to the external storage in Settings > Backup Settings > Destination Folder.

How do I have my iPhone App backup its photos/videos or iCloud directly to external drive connected to AmberX? I'm having an issue where the backup goes to AmberX internal, then runs out of space hence a full backup to AmberX cannot be done.

The backup destination can be changed to an external drive in Settings > Backup & Upload > Camera Roll Backup > Backup Settings > Destination Folder.
